Packing glands are a contact type sealing element that helps hold against the stuffing box. As the packing gland is tightened against the stuffing box, the compression packing between the two creates a seal for the leakage. The packing gland is adjustable and suitable for use with pressures and circumferential speeds brought on by the shaft.
